I love photographing weddings of different cultures, religions, and philosophies, so I was very excited to photograph Drew and Ryta’s Buddhist wedding ceremony this winter, held at Shim Gum Do, a Buddhist temple in Brighton. Drew and Ryta exchanged incense, flowers, and rings, and there were several prayers and poems by guests and by the Zen Master who officiated the ceremony. Four swordsmen were also present over the ceremony, and yes, with real swords! And those blades were sharp. But one of the most interesting things that I learned was that, for their culture, the couple does not choose their wedding date. Instead, the wedding date is chosen by the Zen Master, according to which days are holy and blessed.
Lynn & Chris were married on a late fall day at the Museum of Science. The remaining leaves and tree branches on the Charles were simply lovely. The ceremony was after sunset and therefore was dark and dramatic, with gorgeous lights and reflections in the Skyline Room at the MOS. The cocktail hour was interspersed between science exhibits, and the reception was science-themed with bold fall colors.
